| Mike Knight went to FairfieldUniversity as a Marketing major. Upon graduating in 1973 and taking some interviews, I decided that wasn’t what Iwanted. So I paved driveways for about 6 months, trying to see the light of day, when I decided I wanted to be an accountant (that’s a natural progression if I ever heard of one.) I got a job with State National Bank (1973) in Stamford in the tax department and proceeded to go back to theUniversity of Bridgeport (1973-1975) part time to fill in the accounting courses I needed. From there, I worked in accounting firms: J. William Hope & Co. in Bridgeport from 1975 to 1976 (in 1975 I also married Darlene whom I had met at Fairfield University in Business Law class in my senior year); Beers, Hamerman & Co. in New Haven from 1976 to 1978; Price Waterhouse in Bridgeport from 1978 to 1984. After having been married for 9 years, not being able to have any children, and Darlene working in IBM service division headquarters, it seemed like a good time to branch out on my own. So, in August 1984 I started my own accounting firm with a part time college student as staff in the basement of our house. Two months later, we got pregnant! But the Lord was good. The business took off and Darlene was able to quit after Marie (now 16) was born in 1985. Matthew (now 13) was born three years later in 1988. The business is currently in Fairfield. Knight & Co., CPAs : Home Page (mjkcpa.com) I would have to say that the funniest memory of Christ the King was when we used to drive down to Wakeman’s Boys’ Club in Southport to play baseball. After repeated misses of pop flys at 3rd base, I was determined to catch the next one, except I realized as I caught the ball, I was half way over the muddy river adjoining the ball field. The next thing I knew, they were pulling out the ‘monster from the black lagoon’ and herding me on the bus where everyone sat at least 10 rows behind me. The delicious taste of Southport mud stayed with me for many a day such that I was able to avoid those delicious canteen lunches in the cafeteria. I always enjoyed playing a pick up basketball game at lunch and it could have been Giannino, Thiel or Birney and me against ‘Batman and Robin.’ Now how many of you know who Batman and Robin are? Of course, I will never forget the time that Gilbride gave me a key and asked me to go to the equipment room in the gym to get a basketball. Being the ‘obedient’ student that I was, I stopped off at Mr.Faherty’s office to inform him of my mission. Mort was not there. I proceeded to unlock the equipment room door and to my young sophomore shocked eyes, I found Mr. Faherty sleeping on the trampoline. I began to chatter incessantly, stuttering like a choppy cell phone as I backed out and closed the door on a startled, but still sleepy Mr. Faherty. Who can forget the greatest football game in the history of CTK? The senior class of 1969 was the only class to have ever beaten the faculty in the famous ritualistic end of high school football game. |
